چکیده

Abstract Introduction Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common supraventricular arrhythmias. Treatment options apart from medication include interventional catheter-guided pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). However, there limited knowledge about factors predicting arrhythmia recurrence after PVI. Aim To study association 3-dimensional (3D) left atrial (LA) strain (LAS) and 3D electro-anatomical voltage mapping (EAVM) with early AF Methods In this prospective single center study, 93 patients undergoing PVI were enrolled between December 2018 October 2021. All underwent an echocardiographic examination within two weeks before using Canon Aplio i900 system to analyse LAS LA volume. A EAVM was obtained high-density catheters during The CARTO 3 (Version V6-V7) used for determining scar area by low (local amplitude <0.5 mV) indicated as percentage (EAVM-%). Follow-up time points set at 2, 3, 6 12 months investigate AF, exclusion events occurring first (blanking phase). Results During follow-up, out experienced (12.9%; AF-Group). Baseline characteristics did not differ AF-Group Non-AF-Group. contrast, significantly impaired in (median −4.6, IQR [−5.6 −3.6]) when compared Non-AF-Group (−6.2 [−8.3 −4.5]; p=0.009). EAVM-% groups (AF-Group: 5.0 [1.5 21.5]; Non-AF-Group: 4.4 15.9]; p=0.710). No significant correlations found (r=0.03, p=0.812). cut-off value −5.89% had a sensitivity 100% specificity 57% (AUC=70%; p<0.001). Kaplan Meier curves event-free survival generated based on demonstrating excellent differentiation those without (p<0.001; see figure). Furthermore, associated increased risk (HR 1.40, [1.02–1.92], p=0.040), while 0.99 [0.95–1.04], p=0.787). Left atrial strain predicts recurrence of atrial arrhythmias after catheter ablation of persistent atrial fibrillation

INTRODUCTION Success rates of catheter ablation (CA) of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) are very variable. Identifying patients in whom sinus rhythm maintenance cannot be achieved after CA is a critical issue. METHODS 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography was performed before the first CA procedure in consecutive patients with persistent AF. Left atrial (LA) strain was correlated with recu...

Predictive value of atrial electromechanical delay for atrial fibrillation recurrence.

BACKGROUND We investigated the predictive value of atrial electromechanical delay (AEMD) for recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) at 1-month after cardioversion. METHODS Seventy-seven patients with persistent AF were evaluated and finally 50 patients (12 men, 38 women) were included. All patients underwent transthoracic electrical DC cardioversion under amiodarone treatment. AEMD was measur...

Echocardiography In the Prediction of Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence: A Review.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a very common sustained arrhythmia. Co-morbidities and age signifi cantly accelerate the progression of AF to persistent and permanent forms and the development of complications. The rate of AF recurrence is 10% in the first year after the initial diagnosis (25-50% in the first month after restoration of sinus rhythm) and about 5% per annum thereafter. Left ventricul...

Strain echocardiographic assessment of left atrial function predicts recurrence of atrial fibrillation

AIMS We evaluated if a dispersed left atrial (LA) contraction pattern was related to atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with normal left ventricular (LV) function, and normal or mildly enlarged left atrium. METHODS AND RESULTS We included 61 patients with paroxysmal AF (PAF). Of these, 30 had not while 31 had recurrence of AF after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Twenty healthy individuals w...
